Metagenomic Studies for the Detection of Parelaphostrongylus odocoilei, Ostertagia leptospicularis and Eimeria ahsata in Northern Cyprus Sheep for the First Time

Background: Gastrointestinal parasitism is considered one of the major health problems ruminants in developing and undeveloped countries world. Despite universal knowledge these parasites, little known about their prevalence distribution Northern Cyprus. This study aimed at microscopic metagenomic gastrointestinal parasites across Cyprus sheep farms. Methods: A total 200 faecal samples were randomly collected farms suburban regions during 2021-22. Samples analyzed using centrifugal floatation technique. Data subjected to chi-square test analysis on SPSS determine relationship between age, sex animals nematodes. selected extract DNA after which has been extracted from samples. Result: Our investigations allowed us identify three species namely Parelaphostrongylus odocoilei, Ostertagia leptospicularis Eimeria ahsata are new this region. The GINs recovered Haemonchus, Moniezia Toxocara among others. high (85%) was recorded. Results showed a considerable significant (P less than 0.05) age parasite prevalence.
